Satyen was born in Kenya and grew up in the UK. After qualifying as a doctor from The University of Manchester, he spent a few years overseas both working and travelling. He completed his general orthopaedic training in New Zealand and then underwent further sub-specialty training in Hip & Knee arthroplasty in Melbourne, Australia and Orthopaedic sports surgery at the highly coveted Fowler Kennedy Sports Medicine Clinic in Canada.

He is currently appointed as a Consultant Orthopaedic surgeon at Waikato Hospital and holds private clinics in Cambridge, Te Awamutu and Hamilton.
